About the person:
Stephan Frisch, MD completed his medical studies in Bonn, Ulm, and Boston (USA), followed by specialist training in neurology at BKH Günzburg. He then pursued further specialist training in psychiatry and psychodynamic psychotherapy at BKH Günzburg and Christophsbad Göppingen. In addition, he obtained an additional qualification in special pain therapy. He previously served as head of the Interdisciplinary Pain Center in Günzburg and also worked at the Pain Clinic in Nottwil, Canton Lucerne (Switzerland). From 2011 to 2022, he was in private practice in Leutkirch im Allgäu, focusing on neurology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy.
Since 2018, he has been a Research Associate at the Section of Medical Psychology, Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the University Ulm Medical Center, where he conducts basic research on pain experience and unconscious emotions. In addition, since 2022, he has been clinically engaged in the special outpatient clinic for pain psychosomatics at the same department.

Seine Facharztausbildung absolvierte er zunächst in Neurologie am BKH Günzburg sowie anschließend in Psychiatrie und psychodynamischer Psychotherapie am BKH Günzburg und am Christophsbad Göppingen. Zusätzlich erwarb er die Zusatzqualifikation in spezieller Schmerztherapie. Beruflich war er unter anderem als Leiter des Interdisziplinären Schmerzzentrums Günzburg tätig und arbeitete zudem an der Schmerzklinik Nottwil im Kanton Luzern (Schweiz). Von 2011 bis 2022 führte er eine eigene Praxis für Neurologie, Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie in Leutkirch im Allgäu.
Seit 2018 ist er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter der Sektion Medizinische Psychologie an der Klinik für Psychosomatische Medizin und Psychotherapie des Universitätsklinikums Ulm, wo er sich in der Grundlagenforschung mit dem Schmerzerleben und unbewussten Emotionen befasst. Seit 2022 ist er zudem klinisch in der Spezialambulanz für Schmerzpsychosomatik derselben Klinik tätig.
